ModeNewsarticles=True reverts back to False

I have version 2.05 running on two new installs of DNN 6.1. Both have Ventrian News installed, and on one install the 'souce' dropdown for the news module doesn't populate for me to select which of the news article modules to associate with. That means one install works as expected, the other doesn't. Both are clean new installation.

I've gone straight into the db TabModuleSettings table and added two records - newsarticlesmodule and newsarticlestab and the cloud displays fine, and the drop-down is now populated with the other news article instances in the site.

BUT... If I edit the settings with a browser - in the normal control panel, the ModeNewsarticles=True reverts back to ModeNewsarticles=False and the cloud doesn't show.

My Module checks if the NewsArticles Module is installed by checking if the file ~/bin/Ventrian.NewsArticles.dll Exists, if the file doesnt exists it automatically disables the NewsArticles Feature. Did the dll in your installation have a different name?

I haven't much time lately but if i have some time i implement a better check

Yes, the dll is there. That's likely why the option to check the NewsArticle as a source for the tags displays. However, the dropdown to select a news article module to use for the cloud DOESNT LIST ANY of the installed instances of the news module to select. The dropdown is there, it's content is empty.

If I add the tag cloud to a page FROM another page, (copy module) then the settings from the working module don't copy across. Neither can I import the settings (Invalid XML format), so each time a portal uses the module, I have to go into the database and insert records. Unfortunately as soon as someone EDITS those settings, the table value for ModeNewsArticles reverts to FALSE, and the module can't be used (until I manually return it to TRUE.

Ok the Problem with The Import/Export should be fixed with the next release.

There is a Check if the Drop Down with the News Module Instances is Empty it sets the setting back to ModeNewsarticles=false, but i dont have any idea Why the drop down is empty in your case. It works for me in every Installation.

P.S: I attached the Beta Version which fixes the setting Import/export

The 2.0.6 fix for the tabs helps a lot - thank you

How can I help get the ModeNewsarticles=false to stop returning to false? Each time any setting is saved, the module isn't functional when attached to the news articles module.
Is this because we have MORE THAN ONE instance of NA in the site and you have only a single NA?

If it found the Module Instances there should been no problem With Multiple Module Instances because it grabs directly the Module Instance Id. Do you use the latest Version of the News Articles Module maybe the Name is different now that could be a Reason why there is now Instance found. You Can check that by going to The Extensions Page Click on Edit Extension on "News Articles" the Module Name & Folder Name should be "DnnForge - NewsArticles"

intelligent wrote Dec 10, 2011 at 2:27 AM

Yes, the name/folder, etc are DnnForge - NewsArticles which is the latest version NA 7.91

How do the two fields (news moduleid and news tabid) get added for each module instance? Even when I put them in manually, the dropdown doesn't populate, but the module at least works until someone edits it.

It searches thru each Tab if the Module Id is found. Can you take a look add the News Arcticles Search Module in the Module Settings it uses the same technique to find all News articles Modules.

I found another Issue that could be the reason why the list is empty. There is a check which check if the User that views the Tag Cloud Settings have also Edit Rights for the Module Instance. Do you test this with an Admin/Host User or with a regular User?

intelligent wrote Dec 10, 2011 at 5:56 PM

I've done it with logins that have Host and Admin rights to edit the page, and the module set to inherit those rights. I can create a login for you on one of the sites if that would help. I appreciate your time and energy Ingo.

Not sure if this would help but we can try that you can send me the login data via email. Did you check if it works with the news arcticles search/archive module?
